
Dons Conclude Season at WCC Tournament

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (28-30) concluded the 2026 season in the West Coast Conference Tournament, with a split against Saint Mary's (34-25) on Saturday at Scottsdale Stadium.
GAME ONE: San Francisco 9, Saint Mary's 8
- Saint Mary's gained an early advantage in the opening frame, scoring three times to take a 3-0 lead.
- Bouncing back in the top of the third inning, TJ Rogers posted an RBI groundout and Jackson Nystrom pulled a single to left center, driving in a pair of runs, to tie the game at three.
- After the Gaels jumped back ahead at 5-3 from a two-run home run from Ian Armstrong, the Dons put six runs on the board in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a Nystrom two-run blast to left field to give the green and gold a 9-5 edge.
- Saint Mary's responded at the bottom of the eighth inning, plating three runs to trim its deficit to 9-8.
- Nick Bacura closed the door, putting the Gaels down in order to force a winner-take-all game to decide the conference champion.
- For the second straight game, Saint Mary's opened its scoring in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a Makoa Sniffen RBI groundout.
- Nystrom plated San Francisco's first run of the tournament's final game, scoring from third base to tie the contest on a wild pitch from the Gaels' starting pitcher, Lukas Sarantos.
- Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jayden Garrison brought the Dons to within 5-2 on an RBI single, and Isaiah Landry followed with a two-RBI single through the left side of the infield to trim the deficit to 5-4.
- Following a two-run ninth inning from the Gaels to extend the advantage to 7-4, Nystrom recorded a two-run home run to deep left center to get the Dons to within 7-6.
- San Francisco failed to cut into the deficit in the final frame as Saint Mary's earned the West Coast Conference Tournament title for a second consecutive season and a berth to the NCAA Regionals.
- San Francisco's offense erupted for 15 total runs in two games and finished the tournament averaging 6.8 runs per game in six games across four days.
- Nystrom paced the team in both games against Saint Mary's, totaling a .556 batting average with five hits in nine at-bats, a double, two home runs, and six RBI.
- Zack Ramppen also batted .500, with four hits, recorded his first-career triple, and scored two runs.
- Gabriel Barrett came out of the bullpen for the second time during the tournament and pitched 1.2 scoreless frames, allowing one hit, two walks, and striking out two batters.
- Following the two contests, Nystrom, Garrison, Landry, and Barrett earned a place on the WCC All-Tournament Team.
