SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball program and Head Coach
Molly Goodenbour have announced the signing of Mara Neira for the 2025-26 season.
"Mara will be an excellent addition to our team," Goodenbour said. "Her ability to knock down perimeter shots consistently will help keep defenses honest. She is an intelligent ball player, and her experience getting to the NCAA tournament at Presbyterian will be valuable as we try to reach that same goal with our team."
Neira comes to the Hilltop following a season at Appalachian State and a two-year stint at Presbyterian. In three seasons of collegiate basketball, Neira is averaging 9.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in 93 career Division I games.
In a career-setting season in 2023-24 at Presbyterian, Neira appeared in 33 games, ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 points per game, and helped guide the team to its first-ever Big South Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. A threat from distance, she posted a team-high 68 three-point field goals while recording a program single-game record of seven in a 59-43 win at Winthrop on January 10, 2024. She led the program with 134 defensive rebounds on the glass, while 12 offensive boards pushed her season total to 146.
Participating in one season at Appalachian State, Neira led the program in steals per game (1.6), three-point percentage (34.7), and ranked second in free-throw percentage (83.3). She netted double-figure scoring in 11 games, including a season-high 23 points against Marshal on March 7. She added a 20-point performance against Arkansas State on December 29, 2024, and dished out five assists at Old Dominion on January 15.
Before her time with Presbyterian and Appalachian State, she played in 39 games at Eastern Wyoming College over two seasons, earning the start in 21 contests.
