Baseball Drops Series Finale at UC Riverside in Extra Innings

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (9-9) concluded its three-game series with a 6-5 extra-inning defeat at UC Riverside (6-14) Sunday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

San Francisco gained an early advantage in the first inning when Eddison Esquivel doubled in the left-center field gap to drive in Tino Vasell for a 1-0 lead.
UC Riverside responded in the bottom half of the opening frame, scoring three runs to take a 3-1 lead.
Zach Nagy trimmed into the deficit at the top of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to right field, getting the Dons to within 3-2.
The Highlanders answered with a two-run home run in the home half of the fourth frame, extending their advantage to 5-2.
San Francisco plated two runs in the fifth, when TJ Rogers recorded an RBI groundout, and Wyatt Davis slashed a single to right field, scoring Jayden Garrison, to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Trailing in the top of the eighth inning, Myles Kallinger recorded a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Nick Walsh to tie the game at five.
UC Riverside walked off the green and gold in the bottom of the 10th inning on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to secure the win and series, 6-5.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

Esquivel paced San Francisco at the plate, going two-for-five, with a double and an RBI.
Nagy, Davis, Rogers, and Kallinger also registered an RBI throughout the contest.
Vasell impressed as the lead-off man, as he recorded one hit in two at-bats and walked a season-high four times.
Cal Amborn pitched three solid innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit and posting one strikeout.
Nick Bacura also pitched two clean frames as he gave up two hits and one walk.

UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to the Hilltop at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 17, when it hosts Sacramento State in a nonconference contest at Benedetti Diamond.
