Box Score
COLUMBIA, Missouri – The University of San Francisco Diamond Dons (5-8) struck early, but not often as they lost 6-2 to the Missouri Tigers (3-6) on a cold day at Taylor Stadium.
After scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, third baseman
Bob Cruikshank made two costly errors that led to unearned runs in the third and eighth innings. USF managed just two base runners after the fifth inning in their fourth consecutive series-opening loss of 2013.
The Dons opened the game with three consecutive two-out doubles from
Derek Atkinson, Zachary Turner and
Bradley Zimmer to take a two-run lead, just the third time this season the Dons have scored first in a game. The only scoring opportunities after that came in the third and fifth innings when the Dons had a runner at second base with one out but couldn't capitalize.
“We had a great start with three consecutive two-out hits in the first,” said Dons Head Coach
Nino Giarratano. “We just didn't stay after it offensively, and we gave it away on defense. On the bright side,
Abe Bobb pitched better and we need to continue to stay after it.”
Sophomore right fielder
Bradley Zimmer continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and double. Zimmer is 9-for-20 in his last five games with two doubles, a home run, three stolen bases and four RBI.
Dons starter
Abe Bobb pitched six innings, giving up three earned runs in his longest appearance of the year.
The Dons will be back in action against the Tigers tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. PST.
Inside the Numbers

Bob Cruikshank have hit safely in 11 of the Dons first 13 games.
