PROVO, Utah – The San Francisco Diamond Dons remain one win away from clinching the #2 seed in the upcoming West Coast Conference Tournament, after losing to BYU Saturday, 6-4, at Larry H. Miller Field. For the second day in a row USF was unable to make a late lead stand, surrendering four runs in the bottom of the eighth that provided the Cougars winning margin.

The Dons got a strong start out of Christian Cecilio who scattered eight hits in 5.1 innings, and allowed two earned runs, striking out a pair. The Dons took a 4-2 lead into the eighth, when Adam Cimber gave up five hits and four earned runs on four two-out hits to conclude the scoring for the day.

In the second, Ryan Matranga connected for his third home run of the season, lofting a high fly ball over the left field fence. The freshman gave the Dons a 4-2 lead that provided the last runs for USF.

Bradley Zimmer was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a walk. The sophomore was 6-for-10 with five runs and five RBIs on the weekend along with three walks and two hit-by-pitches. Zimmer reached base in 11-of-15 plate appearances.

The Dons head home to host the final game of the regular season Tuesday, when San Jose State comes to Benedetti Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

USF will need Saint Mary's to defeat BYU in one of three games next weekend to clinch the #2 seed in the WCC tournament. If BYU swepps the Gaels, USF will be the #3 seed.
