After winning the San Francisco Invitational, the undefeated San Francisco volleyball team heads to Utah State to play in the Gossner Invitational. USF will face Southern Utah, Middle Tennessee and Utah State in the two-day soiree.
As a team, the Dons are outhitting opponents .281 to .145, ranking third in the West Coast Conference in each category.
Katarina Pilepic leads the way with 3.55 kills per set and 46.5 total points.
Madison Murtagh was big on the block in her first weekend for the Green and Gold, compiling 19 total denials from the net. Setting duties have been distributed between
Kiara McKibben and
Jurja Vlasic, with McKibben assisting on 71 kills.

Know the Foes
Southern Utah enters the weekend undefeated, sweeping each of its fouropponents in the Mississippi State Tournament. Senior outside hitter Madi Forsythe was named MVP and Big Sky player of the week after accumulating 55 kills on a .420 hitting percentage on the weekend.
Middle Tennessee recorded a 1-3 record after hosting the Blue Raider Bash in the first weekend of the season, picking up a 3-0 victory over Bowling Green. The Blue Raiders were led by Chelsea Ross' 74 kills, 62 digs from Jacqueline Lux and 17 total blocks for senior Rachel Shaughnessy.
Utah State sports a 1-3 record after opening the 2015 campaign at the Texas Tech Tournament and a home match against in-state rival Utah. In Lubbock, the Aggies picked up a victory against Louisiana-Lafayette. Kaylie Kamalu leads the team in kills (47) and aces (7), Erica Moscoso has compiled 110 assists and Lauren O'Brien has combined on the block on 13 occasions.
Last Time Out
The Dons took care of Denver, 3-1 in the finale of the San Francisco Invitational to take the tournament title. In that match,
Katarina Pilepic swung away for 16 kills and added 11 digs,
Oluoma Okaro finished with 11 kills,
Kiara McKibben assisted on 29 balls, and
Madison Murtagh finished with eight blocks, including three solo stuffs.
Invitational Award Winners
Junior
Katarina Pilepic was named San Francisco Invitational Most Valuable Player after leading the Dons with 39 kills on .303 hitting in USF's three matches. Freshman
Madison Murtagh earned a spot on the All-Tournament squad with an impressive 19 total blocks in her first weekend on the Hilltop to go along with 23 kills. Sophomore libero
Kim Gutierrez was also named to the All-Tournament team directing the defense with 39 digs on the season-opening weekend.
Numbers Watch
Kim Gutierrez … needs 256 digs to move to 15th on the all-time list
Kiara McKibben … needs 923 assists to jump to 10th on the career assists tally, and 557 assists to reach the 2,000 mark
Katarina Pilepic … needs 321 kills to hit 1,000 for her career as a Don
A Look Ahead
Up next, a trip to the East Coast is in order at the St. John's Kaiser Classic. There, USF will face Cornell, George Mason, Central Connecticut and St. John's, Sept. 11-12. Aside from 2013's trip to Middle Tennessee, this is USF's first expedition across the Mississippi and to the East Coast since 2006.
