USF will join teams from Illinois State, San Diego State, Southern Mississippi, Stephen F. Austin, Utah and host Hawaii in the 2016 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic to be played Dec. 22, 23 and 25 at the Stan Sherriff Center in Honolulu.
 
The 2016 edition of the classic features three teams that participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, including Utah, which advanced to the Elite Eight. Stephen F. Austin and San Diego State were also included in the NCAA Tournament field last season while Tulsa and Illinois State were part of the National Invitation Field.
 
The Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic will feature 12 games over three days. Each team will compete each day advancing through the bracket. The two teams which remain undefeated will compete for the tournament title on Christmas Day.
 
USF last competed in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in 2012, when the Dons faced San Diego State, Ole Miss and East Tennessee State.
Previous tournament champions of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic include USC (2009), Butler (2010), Kansas State (2011), Arizona (2012), Iowa State (2013) and George Washington (2014).
