The 34th annual Swanson Memorial Golf Tournament proved to be a great success this year. The fundraiser hosted by USF Athletics was again held at San Francisco's famed Olympic Club and saw record attendance and proceeds in support of USF Athletics.
Over 225 supporters enjoyed a round of golf on one of the West Coast's premier private courses, taking advantage of sunny weather and summer temperatures. The event featured participation from many Bay Area notable figures, among them KPIX sports anchor Vern Glenn and former USF Don and NBA champion Bill Cartwright.
"We were so pleased to see the turnout that we had at the Swanson this year," said Director of Athletics
Scott Sidwell. "It truly shows the deep level of support that exists among the USF community and the network of alums, friends and families committed to helping USF continue to pursue its goals of providing a top-notch experience for all of its student-athletes. It's always great to see events like this connect our donors with the student-athletes who benefit from their generosity and we hope we can continue to see the event grow every year."
The annual event is named in honor of USF alumnus and former halfback John Swanson '38 and sponsored by the generous support of the Sam Johnstone '42 through the Sam and Pauline Johnstone Foundation, whose unwavering commitment to USF athletics has left a lasting legacy for the generations of Dons who have followed them.
