Dons Going for Series Sweep Against Surging Pilots

The University of San Francisco men's basketball team returns home from a three-game road trip on Thursday evening when Portland comes to town.  Thursday's game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. tip off.  Thursday's contest will North Beach Night, an evening celebrating one of San Francisco's finest neighborhoods.  A taste of North Beach will be offered in the club section and front lobby, serving dishes from Original Joe's, Café Pellegrini, Sotto Mare, and SFIAC to name a few.

TOMORROW'S GAME
USF, winners of three of their last five, looks to make it two in a row when visiting Portland comes to War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.  Thursday's contest is the first home contest of the month for the Dons who spent the last three games on the road. USF is 13-12 overall record and are 5-7 in the WCC and is currently sitting in sixth.  As a team, the Dons are averaging 68.4 points per game while shooting 41.8 percent, both rank in the bottom half of the conference.  Four players are averaging better than 10 points per contest, and are led by freshman Souley Boum's game-high 12.6 points per game.  Boum is 29 points shy of cracking the top-10 for points scored by a freshman.  On the defensive side of the ball they are limiting their opponents to 68.0 points per game and 43.7 percent from the field.  Portland enters Thursday night with a 10-15 overall record and are 4-8 in the WCC.  As a team, they are averaging 70.8 points per game while shooting 44.5 percent from the field. Three players are averaging better 10 points per contest, leading the Pilots is Josh McSwiggan who averages 11.6 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per contest.
 
THE SERIES
The Dons and Pilots have met 86 times with the Dons owning a 59-27 advantage in the series.  The two teams first squared off in Portland on Jan. 26, 1953 with the Dons falling to the Pilots 61-60.  USF has won five-straight over the Pilots, including the game up in the Rose City on Dec. 30 when the Dons defeated the Pilots 84-61.
