Facing the Cardinal: The series against Stanford has gone the way of the team from the Pac-12 over the course of the history, as well as recent history. Stanford has won in last four meetings from 2014-2017, edging the Dons in very competitive games. The last time the Dons beat Stanford was back in 2013 in a 4-3 win. After USF saw an early lead erased by Stanford in second, the Dons would regain the lead in the fourth, and that would be enough to earn the win.
Benji on the Bump: Junior
Benji Post will take to the mound for his second start of the year. Over the weekend, Post would take to the mound in the seventh inning of game two and throw a scoreless inning before being replaced. In his nine appearances, Post has thrown just 5 2/3 innings, striking out two.
Two-out runs: After some early struggles in their series against Santa Clara with two-outs, the Dons offense exploded for 12 runs and eight of those coming with two-outs. The highest scoring inning would come in the second where three consecutive two-out doubles from
Riley Helland,
Michael Perri and
Ross Puskarich would bring home four runs. The inning would be capped off with a two-run home run from
Brady Bate.
Rest for the Pen: The Dons sent out six pitchers in their second extra inning game against Santa Clara, extending the bullpen. With Sunday's game, the combination of
Landen Bourassa throwing six innings and
Grant Goodman going for three, USF were able to rest some key arms as they head into an important week of baseball.
