SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The San Francisco baseball team will be featured on national television this spring, with the Dons' West Coast Conference series opener at Gonzaga on April 26 being moved to a 7 p.m. national broadcast on ESPNU, as announced by the WCC office on Thursday.
Â
San Francisco (28-30, 15-12 WCC in 2018) will face the defending WCC Tournament champion Bulldogs (33-24, 16-11 WCC in 2018) for a three-game conference series on April 26-28 at the Patterson Baseball Complex in Spokane, Wash. The Dons took two of three from Gonzaga last year in San Francisco, shutting them out twice, but dropped two of three in Spokane in 2017.
Â
"What a great opportunity for the players and program to play on ESPN versus a WCC opponent in April," said San Francisco head coach
Nino Giarratano, now entering his 21st year at the helm of the Dons. "It should be a very good matchup."
Â
The late-April matchup should be an important one, as both teams made appearances in last season's WCC Tournament. San Francisco returns 20 letterwinners from a 2018 team that made the program's first appearance in the WCC Tournament in five years. Gonzaga has made two NCAA Regional appearances in the last three years and has played in the championship of the WCC Tournament for three consecutive seasons.
Â
The Dons will have all 56 of its games broadcast or streamed live on TV or online networks. In addition to the April 26 national ESPNU broadcast, the Dons' March 19 game at California will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks. All 28 of the Dons' home games and their 15 road WCC contests will be streamed live on TheW.tv. San Francisco will also travel to four different Mountain West Conference schools who will stream the games on The Mountain West Network. The Dons' two trips to UC Davis will be streamed live on BigWest.tv, and their three-game series at Kansas State on March 1-3 will be broadcasted on the Wildcats' in-house K-StateHD.tv.
