2019 CoSIDA GOOGLE CLOUD ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT BASEBALL TEAMS

GREENWOOD, Ind. — University of San Francisco baseball sophomore shortstop Jack Winkler was named Thursday to the Google Cloud Academic All-District team for District 8, as announced by CoSIDA.
 
Winkler carries a 3.85 Grade Point Average as a biology major while being one of the Dons' main offensive catalysts this year as the everyday shortstop. Winkler – who earned Gold Honors on last year's 2017-18 West Coast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll as a freshman – started this season with a 12-game hitting streak and hit safely in 25 of USF's first 27 games. He currently leads the Dons with 60 hits, 45 runs scored and 15 doubles. He's also second on the team with nine stolen bases, a .309 batting average and a .401 on-base percentage. He's hit five home runs this season after hitting just one as a freshman last year.
 
Winkler had the walk-off, game-winning hit on April 14 versus Saint Mary's, hitting a double off the right-center field wall in the bottom of the 12th inning to complete a three-game sweep for the Dons – their first over the Gaels in 12 years (2007).
 
Winkler is one of three WCC players to be selected to the 11-player Academic All-District first team. BYU's Jackson Cluff and Gonzaga's Daniel Fredrickson were also named to the team. With their Academic All-District first team selections, Winkler and his WCC comrades will advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot with an opportunity to be named an Academic All-American. The Academic All-American teams will be named in June.
 
Winkler and Cluff clash this weekend in Provo, Utah, as the Dons visit the first-place Cougars for a pivotal three-game WCC series starting Thursday.
