Dons Continue Tradition of Excellence in the Classroom

SAN FRANCISCO — Once again, the University of San Francisco athletics department has put forth a tremendous effort in the classroom. The Dons posted a department-wide grade point average of 3.43 in fall 2019 – the second-highest semester in program history. USF had 208 student-athletes earn a 3.0 or higher, 153 with a 3.5 or higher, and an additional 26 earned a perfect 4.0.

The women's teams posted a GPA of 3.5 with the men's teams recording a GPA of 3.32. Every single team earned a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

"I'm truly impressed with the tremendous work turned in by our student-athletes," said Director of Athletics, Joan McDermott. "Their commitment and hard work has really paid off.  To have 85 percent of our student-athletes earn a 3.0 or higher in incredible. It is a testament to their work ethic, dedication, and belief in our core values."

The 3.43 grade point average is second only to the 3.45 the Dons accomplished in the spring of 2018. In the spring of 2019, the Dons posted a department GPA of 3.34 and had 130 student-athletes with a 3.0 or higher.

Last year, 130 Dons were named to the 2018-19 WCC Commissioners Honor Roll, the fifth time in the last six years the department had at least that many honorees. Following last fall's performances in the classroom, the Dons are well on their way to repeating that honor once again.
