MBB | Josh Kunen Named to Breakout Watch List

SAN FRANCISCO – CBS Sports college basketball insider, Jon Rothstein, has named University of San Francisco men's basketball sophomore Josh Kunen to his 20 under-the-radar breakout players for the 20-21 season in his latest article published on College Hoops Today.

The 6-8 forward from Melbourne, Australia had a strong freshman campaign – playing in all 34 games and making 24 starts. USF was 16-8 with him in the starting lineup.  He finished the year with a modest 4.4 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per contest, though in the West Coast Conference he finished in the top-10 in offensive rebounds and rebounds per game.

He also had a habit of coming up big for the Dons in crucial situations. In USF's win over Santa Clara on January 9, he recorded his second career double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 boards. He was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in that contest, which ended the Dons three-game skid and propelled USF to a semifinal berth in the WCC Conference Tournament.

Kunen also made a major impact off the ball in his debut campaign. He was a member of the best five-player rotation in terms of plus/minus, a statistic that measures a player's team scoring output against the opponent's scoring when he is on the floor. It gives credence to play that doesn't show up in the scorebook, like good defense, intelligent decision making, and limiting opponent rebounds.

Kunen and the Dons will kick off the season on November 25.
