SAN FRANCISCO – Second year head coach
Leonard Griffin is pleased to announce the addition of goalkeeper Brandon Keniston (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral High School/Phoenix Rising FC) for the 2020 season.
"We are delighted to have Brandon Keniston join our storied program here on The Hilltop," said Griffin. "Brandon is a top student and has exceptionally high character that will seamlessly align with the culture of our program. He has been developing and training at a top level as a member of Phoenix Rising's first team in the USL Championship under an amateur contract. Brandon has a very clear understanding of what it takes to play at an extremely high level and I am very confident his abilities will translate to success at the Division I level."
Keniston, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., played two years of prep soccer for Chapparal High School, where he lettered twice for the Firebirds. In his sophomore year, he helped lead his squad to a state cup appearance. He started just eight games that year but tallied 47 saves and went 7-0-1 in the net.
Following his sophomore year in high school, Keniston moved to Spain for a year in 2018 to play for FC Malaga City Academy. As the academy's starting keeper, Keniston played against some of the top Spanish youth academy teams: Real Madrid U-18's, Atletico Madrid U-19's, Malaga CF U-19s, and Sevilla FC U-19's. After that he transferred to ASU Prep Digital High School to continue his academics.
Back in Arizona, he has been a member of the Phoenix Rising Youth Club for 10 years. In 2015 and 2017, he helped his squad earn third place at the Arizona State Cup. In 2017, they were the NPL Southwest Region Champions.
In January, 2019, he signed with Phoenix Rising FC as a USL academy player to play competitive matches for the professional team without jeopardizing his amateur status.
Keniston joins a talented class that includes the addition of
Nonso Adimabua and
Filip Kanold.
