TUCSON, Ariz. – University of San Francisco relief pitcher Jesse Barron has been named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball News, as announced by the outlet Tuesday morning.
Barron took hold of the Dons' closer role early – working as the Dons' final pitcher in six of his seven appearances and tallying two saves while boasting a 0.96 ERA in 9 1/3 innings of work. Barron did not allow a run in six appearances and recorded at least one strikeout in six of his seven outings.
The native of San Ramon, Calif., made his collegiate debut on Feb. 16, throwing a scoreless third of an inning, the start of five straight appearances in which he did not allow a run. In his final four appearances of the year, he pitched at least one inning, going a full 2 2/3 innings in the Dons' March 8 win over California. In that contest he struck out a season-best five batters.
The Dons finished the year 9-8, but won seven of their last eight contests while playing their best baseball of the year before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.
