BASE | San Francisco Giants Sign Robert Emery

SAN FRANCISCO – University of San Francisco redshirt-senior Robert Emery has signed with the San Francisco Giants as a free agent following the completion of the 2020 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Emery, a native of San Francisco who attended St. Ignatius High School, spent three years on the Hilltop where he hit a robust .310 while handling catching duties as the primary backstop.  In 96 games played he made 77 starts with 92 hits, 21 doubles, seven home runs, and 50 runs batted in.

In a shortened 2020 campaign, Emery the two-time Buster Posey Watch List honoree, hit .381 with four doubles, two home runs, and a .991 OPS in 17 games played.  His breakout season came in 2019 when he was named Second Team All-WCC after hitting .320, including a .479 slugging percentage and a .865 OPS. He drove in 40 runs while clubbing 16 doubles and five home runs.

"Really excited and proud for Rob to get his chance as a professional baseball player," said USF head coach Nino Giarratano. "The Giants are a wonderful organization for a San Francisco native to have the opportunity to play for. We wish Rob and his family the best in this new journey."

Emery becomes the sixth player signed by the Giants in the Giarratano era.  The last time the Giants signed a player from the Dons was in 2017, when Nico Giarratano was drafted in the 24th round.
