USF Wraps Up Road Stretch at Gonzaga, Portland

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Completing their short three game road trip in the Pacific Northwest, the University of San Francisco volleyball team (0-14, 0-6) will travel to Gonzaga (5-12, 1-5) and Portland (4-11, 1-5) this weekend as they continue West Coast Conference play.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Last time out, USF battled Santa Clara early on the road at the Leavey Center, but ultimately fell to the Broncos, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 9. Despite the loss, Shyia Richardson continued to piece together an impressive season after tallying a game-high ten kills against SCU.
  • Heading into the weekend, Orsula Staka remains amongst the conference's best in hitting percentage as she currently sits in fourth place in the WCC with a .364 mark. Notably, Letizia Aquilino also ranks fifth in the conference in digs per set (3.45) as well as seventh in total digs (162).
  • Following their trip up north, the Dons will return home to War Memorial at the Sobrato Center next week when they host Saint Mary's on Thursday, Oct. 21 followed by a date with Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 23. 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • In their last time on the court, Gonzaga fell on the road at No. 9 BYU, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 9. Individually, Kennedy Croft and McKenna Marshall led the Bulldogs with 7 kills each while Keau Kamake'eaina paced the team with 18 assists.
  • Heading into Thursday night, Croft currently ranks second in the WCC in services aces per set (0.49) while teammate Dani Batenhorst is just a few spots behind in fourth place (0.44). As a team, the Bulldogs also currently sit second in the conference in service aces per set (1.97).
  • Beginning with their showdown against the Dons, Gonzaga will open a four-match homestand on Thursday as they will welcome Santa Clara, Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount over the next two weeks. 
SCOUTING THE PILOTS:
  • Facing the top two of the top teams in the conference last week, the Pilots fell on the road at No. 9 BYU, 3-0, on Thursday, Oct. 7 before dropping their second matchup, 3-0, at No. 25 San Diego on Saturday, Oct. 9.
  • Offensively, Portland will aim to get the ball to outside hitter Jayde Harris, who has proven to be the team's most productive scorer so far by leading the Pilots with 151 kills while also averaging 2.96 per set.
  • As a team, Portland currently averages 10.47 kills per set, 9.63 assists per set and 11.76 digs per set through 15 matches. 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Dating back to Oct. 2002, USF is 20-18 against Gonzaga, which includes a 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs in their previous matchup on March 20, 2021.
  • Against the Pilots, USF currently holds a 39-33 advantage all-time, which includes a 3-2 win over Portland in their last meeting on Feb. 19, 2021.
