SAN MATEO, Calif. — University of San Francisco senior first baseman
Jacob Munoz was named the West Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week Monday for the week of March 29-April 4.
Â
Munoz batted .667, slugged 1.333 and had an on-base percentage of .769 in three games against Loyola Marymount, leading the Dons to their first series sweep of LMU in 10 years. Munoz homered in back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday. He battled through a 10-pitch at-bat on Thursday before homering to make it 3-2 and help power the Dons' comeback. Friday, he wasted no time on getting his second homer, crushing the first pitch he saw in the fourth to make it 6-1 Dons.
Â
He had two multi-hit games in the series, going 2 for 4 Thursday and 3 for 3 Friday. He scored runs in all three games, and drew four walks on the week.
Â
Munoz is the Dons' second weekly award winner this season after
Alex Pham won the first WCC Pitcher of the Week award on Feb. 23. Gonzaga right-handed pitcher Alex Jacob was named this week's WCC Pitcher of the Week alongside Munoz.
Â
San Francisco hosts San Jose State for a single non-conference game on Tuesday, then travels to Santa Clara for a three-game WCC series starting Friday. Fans can find all live coverage links on USFDons.com.
