PHOENIX, Ariz. -- In a game that came together due to weather concerns in the Midwest, the USF Dons baseball team and the Missouri Tigers played a last minute non-conference battle on a sunny day at Phoenix Municipal Stadium with coming away victorious in front of a good neutral crowd at the home of Arizona State.
Saturday afternoon's battle was the one and only regular season meetings between the two schools with USF serving as the home team against Mizzou.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Both starting pitchers had their A-games early and throughout their outings as Dons' starter Jesse Barron was cruising throughout against the Mizzou hitters as the game was scoreless through the Tigers' half of the fifth inning.
- USF got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning as Lane Oliphant grounded a base hit up the middle on a hit and run that scored Harris Williams III to give USF the early 1-0 lead.
- Missouri plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning as they took a 3-1 lead late in the game.
- The Tigers tacked an additional run in the top of the ninth as they went on to secure the 4-1 win at Phoenix Municipal.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Barron was on his A-game from his first delivery of the afternoon with six shutout innings allowing just two base hits and walking zero Tiger hitters and striking out seven to carry the Dons' pitching staff.
- Oliphant went 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in the lone USF run against Missouri.
- Luke Keaschall recorded another two hit day at the plate as he went 2-for-5 hitting in the lead off spot in game one on Saturday.
- Adam Shew came out of the bullpen and allowed just one run in two innings as he also recorded a pair of strikeouts.
