Foster Sets New Program Record as USF Sweeps St John's

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Playing their fourth game in as many days, the USF Dons baseball team (9-4) scored early and often to earn the four game series sweep over the St John's Red Storm (1-11) with a 10-5 victory on Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

The game was highlighted by the phenomenal base running of outfielder Darius Foster who broke his own previous program record by stealing five bases in the Dons' win. Relievers Adam Shew and Oscar Lepe threw a combined four scoreless innings in relief to keep the USF lead throughout the game as the Red Storm threatened to tack on more runs at various points in the game.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Both sides got the offense going early with both teams scoring three runs in the first inning as the Dons found ways to manufacture offense and take advantage of St John's misplays.
  • USF padded on two more runs in the bottom of the second as they managed to chase St John's starter after recording only four outs to lead 5-3 after two innings of play.
  • Each side plated a run in the third and fourth innings before both pitching staffs settled in and limited the offensive production until later in the game.
  • Holding onto a one run heading into the bottom of the eighth, the Dons plated four runs to extend their lead and give their bullpen more cushion to record the final three outs.
  • Josh Mollerus came in and earned a two inning save on Sunday to break out the brooms and move the Dons' winning streak to four games.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Foster stole the show on Sunday as he swiped five bags and went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI to help frustrate the Red Storm pitchers and put pressure on the defense all game.
  • Shew, Lepe and Mollerus each combined to throw six innings of one run ball allowing a combined two hits and striking out seven St John's hitters on Sunday in relief of starter Jonah Jenkins.
  • Harris Williams III had another nice day at the plate going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to help USF on their way to the win.
  • Christian Stapleton reached base three times in the DH spot today as he recorded a hit and two walks in five plate appearances on Sunday.
