DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Playing their fourth straight game against a ranked opponent on Tuesday, USF fell in the bottom of the ninth to No. 22 Stanford, 6-5, despite mounting a late comeback to tie the game on the Farm. In the contest, Luke Keaschall reached base five times as he tallied a walk, one hit and three hit by pitches en route to scoring two runs. Notably, Gabe Giosso also finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.
- Offensively, the Dons have remained strong at the plate as a team as USF currently leads the WCC in home runs (32), base-on-balls (154), doubles (74) and stolen bases (62) while also ranking second in RBI (182) and third in runs scored (197).
- Individually, Keaschall leads the conference in stolen bases (23) and on-base percentage (.488) while Mario DeMera and Harris Williams III are tied for fourth in the conference with 25 RBI. Within WCC play, Keaschall is hitting .425 with three home runs, six RBI, 16 runs scored and 28 total bases in addition to a .596 on-base percentage and .700 slugging percentage. Doing damage from the top of the order, DeMera and Williams III also lead the team with 11 RBI each in conference games.
- Out of the bullpen, Lance Santerre has been a reliable option for the Dons as the lefty currently sports a 0.84 ERA across 10.2 innings pitched in WCC play. Alongside Santerre, Adam Shew has delivered multiple quality outings as the freshman has a 2.13 ERA in 12.2 innings pitched in conference action.
SCOUTING THE WAVES:
- Last time out, Pepperdine fell to No. 12 UCLA, 9-7, at home after previously dropping two of three on the road at Saint Mary's last weekend. Despite the losses, Pepperdine's designated hitter Charles Masino is currently on a 12-game hitting streak as he has also reached base for 14 straight games.
- Dangerous at the dish, Masino currently sits fourth in the WCC in batting average (.355) while teammate John Peck is a few spots behind in sixth (.351). On the mound, Brandon Llewellyn (3.17 ERA, seventh) and Trevor Hinkel (3.57 ERA, 10th) both rank in the top ten in the conference in ERA while reliever Grant Georges is tied for first with seven saves.
- Overall, the Waves were picked to finish fifth in the WCC's Preseason Poll- one spot behind the Dons- as Pepperdine returns 30 student-athletes from last year's squad, including key players such as Llewellyn, Hinkel and game one starter Nathan Diamond. This offseason, nine true freshman and three redshirt freshmen joined the program.
