DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Last time out, USF took two of three from BYU at home as the Dons downed the Cougars in their first two games last weekend to secure their fourth WCC series victory of the season. In their previous meeting with Sacramento State, USF defeated the Hornets, 6-5, on Tuesday, Mar. 15 at Benedetti Diamond as the Dons walked-off on a hit-by-pitch in the eleventh inning.
- Heading into Tuesday, three Dons currently hold on-base streaks of ten plus games: Luke Keaschall (15), Gabe Giosso (13) and Brandon Greim (10). Notably, four student-athletes also have tallied 30+ RBI for the green and gold this season: Giosso (35), Harris Williams III (33), Mario DeMera (33) and Keaschall (30).
- Right-hander Adam Shew is projected to get his third start of the season on Tuesday night as the talented freshman currently holds the second lowest ERA on the team (3.34 ERA) across 35.0 innings pitched.
- Historically, USF holds a 41-36 record over Sacramento State dating back to 1986 as the Dons have taken seven of the last ten on the road in Sacramento.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS:
- After opening the season 0-6 in midweek games, the Hornets have won their last two — both against West Coast Conference teams — with victories on the road at Pacific (April 19) and Saint Mary's (April 26).
- Senior Steven Moretto became the fourteenth player in the history of the program to reach 200 hits for a career with a ninth-inning single against California Baptist on April 30 and added a pair of hits in Sunday's finale against the Lancers to increase his total to 202.
- Junior Jack Zalasky's seven saves are the most in a single season since former Hornet Tanner Dalton, who ranks tied for third on the school's career list with 16 saves, 10 of which came in 2018.
