SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- After spending the previous weekend in Colorado, the University of San Francisco volleyball team (7-4) is back to work in the City by the Bay as the Dons will host the Santa Clara Broncos (4-8) on Friday evening at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
The Dons enter the 18-match conference schedule with a lot of momentum from their successful non-conference slate which saw the team win their first two weekend tournaments of the season as they raced out to a 6-0 record. Led by impactful newcomers Claire Crjins and Maria Petokva alongside key returners
Shyia Richardson and
Orsula Staka, USF has been attacking opponents offensively and utilizing their skill upfront to formulate scoring opportunities.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
- USF is looking to rebound from a tough weekend at the Thin Air Challenge as they dropped all three matches they competed in against UC San Diego, Denver and Air Force.
- A key piece for the Dons resurgence in 2022 has been the program's offense, as they're currently ranked in the top half of the WCC in kills (527), assists (475) and total attacks (1,417). On an individual basis, Crijns is leading the way in the conference in service aces per set at 0.47 and freshman Abby Wadas is fifth among all WCC athletes in total digs at 145 through the season's first 11 matches.
- The Dons will look to rebound in their latest matchup with the Broncos on Friday night as the team dropped both meetings a year ago including in four sets at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. USF last defeated Santa Clara during the 2021 spring season, when they were able to pick up the 3-0 victory on their home floor.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
- The Broncos enter Friday night's match with a 4-8 overall record this season as they've struggled of late dropping five of their previous six matches including falling short against mutual USF opponents from this season Grand Canyon and Fresno State.
- Senior outside hitter Julia Sangiacomo has been a key piece of the Santa Clara offensive attack as she far and away leads her team with 192 total kills as she's played in 42 sets this season through her team's first 12 matches.
- On the defensive side of the ball, junior libero Kat Georgiadis has been a monster diving for balls and saving would be points as she leads her team with 171 total kills so far this season. Up front, freshman middle blocker Lia Okammor is making life hard with 25 total blocks to go along with 0.68 blocks per set.
