SAN JOSE, Calif. – Returning to the road for the just the second time this season, the USF Dons baseball team (6-3) couldn't continue their winning ways as they dropped an afternoon tilt with the San José State Spartans (5-4) by a 23-2 final score at Excite Ballpark on Tuesday.
Harris Williams III had the USF highlight of the afternoon as he connected on his second home run of the season over the right field wall to account for the Dons' two runs on the afternoon.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- The Spartans got off to a quick start in the first few innings with the bats as they scored a pair of runs in the first inning and tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second.
- USF was able to come up with a response of their own to get back into the ballgame in the top of the third as Tyler Martinez reached base on a Spartan error with two away in the inning. Williams III then came to the plate for his second at-bat of the game and smacked a two-run home to right field off a tough lefty to bring USF with a pair of runs down 4-2 heading into the bottom of the third.
- San Jose State would go on to add three runs in the third, five runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth and nine in the bottom of the seventh for their final runs of the game in the victory on Tuesday.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Williams III left the ballpark for the second time this season as he went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI against the Spartans.
- Getting the start in left field, T. Martinez reached base twice as he went 1-for-2 with a run scored against San José State.
- Making his collegiate debut, right-hander AC Cabrera tossed one scoreless inning that included a strikeout while facing four Spartan hitters on Tuesday.
