DeMera Named to Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas – The College Baseball Foundation recently announced that University of San Francisco junior Mario DeMera, a versatile infielder on USF's baseball team, has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award watchlist.

Notably, this prestigious list honors 101 of the most talented shortstops in Division I college baseball. The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27. The award honors outstanding defensive play as much as it does production at the plate.

After earning WCC Honorable Mention last year, the San Mateo native picked up where he left off as the sweet-swinging infielder is currently second on the team and seventh in the conference with a .349 batting average through 44 games played. Additionally, DeMera is tied for first on the team in on-base percentage while also being second in hits (60), doubles (12), runs scored (36) and walks (21) and third in at-bats (OPS (.860), total bases (75) and stolen bases (9). Within the WCC, he also ranks eighth in hits and twelfth in on-base percentage. Defensively, DeMera sports a .946 fielding percentage as of Wednesday, May 17 as he has tallied a team-high 119 assists to go along with 14 double plays turned.
