San Francisco Travels South to Face LMU, Pepperdine

LOS ANGELES/MALIBU, Calif. – Following two straight home contests, the University of San Francisco volleyball team (14-10, 7-5 WCC) returns to the road to face off against LMU (19-4, 11-1 WCC) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Gersten Pavilion and Pepperdine (12-10, 9-3 WCC) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Firestone Fieldhouse.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Last week, San Francisco went 1-1 in two home matches, earning a season sweep of Portland with a straight-sets victory on Thursday, Nov.7, before dropping a five-set thriller to Oregon State on Saturday, Nov. 9.
  • In the win over Portland, Micahlina Rola recorded a team-high 10 kills, marking the 17th time she has reached double-digit kills. Rola also led the team with 11.5 points while posting a .370 kill percentage.
  • Amelia Dombrowska shined during the three-set match, recording eight kills and a team-leading .412 hitting percentage.
  • In the five-set match against Oregon State, Hayden Goodman led the team offensively, posting 13 kills, 17.5 points, and recorded a .750 hitting percentage. She also tied her season-high in solo blocks, accumulating three, and finished the match with a team-high four.
  • Four players reached double-digit kills during Saturday's matchup against the Beavers, led by Goodman (13), followed by Astrid Puig (12), Amelia Dombrowska (11), and Rola (10).
  • Aylen Ayub has been consistent for the Dons offensively, leading the team and the WCC in assists with 888. Last week, Ayub accumulated 66 assists, with 39 coming against Oregon State.
  • Defensively as a team, San Francisco leads the conference in total blocks with 238 over 96 sets while ranking second in digs with 1,384. 
SCOUTING THE LIONS:
  • LMU enters the week in first place in the WCC standings, winning 11 of its 12 league matches. The team's lone loss in conference play occurred on Saturday, Oct. 5, in a straight-sets decision at San Francisco on the Hilltop.
  • At home, the Lions have been dominant, winning all nine contests at Gersten Pavilion, highlighted by victories over Ohio, UNLV, UC San Diego, and Washington State.
  • In a pair of crucial road matches last week, the Lions remained on top after earning a five-set victory at San Diego in five sets on Thursday, Nov. 7. The program followed with a 3-1 win over Pepperdine on Saturday.
  • In the win over the Toreros, the Lions set a new season high in kills, totaling 66 throughout the five-set affair.
  • Paige Flickinger guided LMU to the win over Pepperdine on Thursday with 18 kills, adding to her team-leading total of 304 this season.
  • Kalani Hayes ranks second overall in the WCC in hitting percentage at .378. Defensively, Jiana Lawson leads the league in blocks with 121 this season.
SCOUTING THE WAVES:
  • Dropping its last two matches, Pepperdine hosts Santa Clara on Thursday, Nov. 14, before taking on San Francisco to end the eighth week of conference play.
  • Last week, Pepperdine fell to LMU in four sets on Thursday before dropping another four-set match against San Diego on Saturday.
  • As a team, Pepperdine leads the league in assists per set at 12.24 while ranking second in kills per set average (12.94) and in digs per set (14.99). Individually, Rosemary Archer ranks sixth in the WCC in total assists with 708.
  • Two players lead the Waves' offense as Grace Chillingworth has the second most kills in the conference at 336, followed by Birdie Hendrickson in third with 316.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Trailing in the overall series, San Francisco has totaled 15 wins over LMU dating back to the 2002 season. The Dons bested the Lions in the last meeting this season, earning a 3-0 win on Saturday, Oct. 5.
  • Since 2002, Pepperdine has led the all-time series with a record of 38-7. The last time the two teams faced off was Thursday, Oct. 24, when the Waves rallied for a 3-2 win over the Dons on the Hilltop.
