Box Score MALIBU, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (14-12, 7-7 WCC) dropped a 3-0 decision on the road, falling to Pepperdine (13-10, 11-2 WCC) Saturday afternoon at Firestone Fieldhouse.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco and Pepperdine went back and forth at the beginning of the match, as the Waves held a narrow 6-5 lead. Maria Petkova, Michalina Rola, and Hayden Goodman led the Dons offensively in the early stages, combining for three kills.
- Exchanging points throughout the set, San Francisco trailed 22-19 in the back half of the frame but answered with a 4-1 scoring run, tying the frame at 23. Goodman led the charge with a kill and a block while the defense forced the Waves into two attack errors.
- The Waves, however, regained the lead and secured the first set with two straight points to take it 25-23.
- After falling behind early in the second set, 4-2, San Francisco recovered with three straight points to take a 5-4 advantage following a Petkova kill and back-to-back blocks.
- Tied up at 13 following a kill by Aylen Ayub, the Waves pulled ahead with a 9-2 scoring run. The Dons attempted to close the deficit late in the frame with kills by Petkova and Goodman but ultimately dropped the set 25-19.
- Pepperdine jumped out to a 7-3 lead to open the third set, but San Francisco responded with a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to one, 9-8.
- The green and gold failed to make up ground on the Waves, falling 25-18 in the final set.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Petkova and Rola led the offense, totaling nine kills apiece. Petkova also tallied a team-high 12.5 points while posting a .200 hitting percentage.
- Goodman led the Dons with a .462 hitting percentage, recording seven kills on 13 attempts. Defensively, Goodman tallied a team-high six blocks and three digs.
- Jolei Akima recorded 11 digs to lead the backline, while Jamie Low added six.
