SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team landed three West Coast Conference All-Conference selections, announced by the league Monday afternoon, as
Aylen Ayub and
Hayden Goodman received All-WCC Second Team honors and
Astrid Puig was named an Honorable Mention.
In her final season with the program, Ayub registered her best-ever season as a member of the green and gold, accumulating career highs in assists, digs, total blocks, and service aces. A staple to the program, Ayub ranked first in the WCC and tied for 49th in the nation in assists, as she is among two players in the league to surpass 1,000 assists this season. Her 1,092 assists marked the most by a player in a decade, passing Kiara McKibben, who amassed 1,041 during the 2014 campaign. Earning the start in all 30 matches, she reached the 40-assist threshold 10 times, including a career-best 57 in a five-set match against California on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Guiding the Dons defensively throughout 2024, Ayub posted 304 digs and 57.0 total blocks. Recording double-digit digs 17 times, the senior from Rosario, Argentina, posted a career-high 19 against the Golden Bears at the Rose City Showdown to begin the season.
Goodman led the Dons' frontline, registering outstanding offensive and defensive numbers from the middle blocker position. Earning the start in all 30 matches in 2024, Goodman hit record numbers in her final season on the Hilltop, posting highs in total and solo blocks, hitting percentage, and kills. Leading the team defensively, Goodman finished the season ranking second in the WCC in total blocks, racking up 146, averaging 1.25 per set. Posting her lone double-double of the season on Thursday, Sept. 5, Goodman totaled 10 kills and a career-high 11 blocks in a five-set win over New Mexico State at the Sacramento State Invitational.
Making strides in just her second season with the team, Puig ranked third in kills with 266, as she is one of four Dons to surpass 200 kills. The former WCC All-Freshman honoree reached record offensive numbers against California, posting a career-best 24 kills in the five-set affair while swinging at a .383 clip. The sophomore from Lleida, Spain, registered double-digit kill performances 12 times, with three occurring in the final four matches.
As a team, San Francisco concluded the season with a 17-13 overall record, the most wins for the program since 2015. Concluding the campaign at 10-8 in WCC play, the Dons earned sole possession of fifth place in the WCC standings. The Dons' 10 league wins mark the most for the green and gold since 2008 when the team totaled an 11-3 record and earned a second-place finish in the league standings.
