Rogers and Soberon Earn WCC Weekly Honors

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Helping guide the University of San Francisco baseball team to a four-game sweep of Saint Peter's last weekend, TJ Rogers and Joe Soberon have been named Rawlings West Coast Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league Monday morning.

Rogers shined offensively throughout the series against the Peacocks at Benedetti Diamond, going eight-for-12 at the plate for a .667 batting average, with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, and five runs scored.

Setting multiple career-highs in the series finale on Sunday, Mar. 10, Rogers led the Dons with three hits, including two home runs in back-to-back plate appearances for his first-ever multi-homer game. Rogers also totaled a career-best five RBI in the contest, the most recorded in a single game throughout his two-year career.

In his lone start of the series, Soberon picked up the win on the mound, guiding the green and gold to a 16-1 victory over the Peacocks on Sunday. Going seven solid innings for his longest outing of the season, Soberon allowed just one run on four hits and recorded a season-high nine strikeouts.

In four starts for the Dons this season, Soberon has accumulated a 2-1 record, allowing just five runs on 18 hits and totaling 19 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched. His 1.64 earned-run average ranks second in the WCC behind teammate Gabriel Barrett and tied for 46th in Division I.

Overall, this marks the third weekly WCC award for San Francisco this season after AJ Guiliana was named Freshman of the Week on Monday, Feb. 26.
