SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Opening West Coast Conference play on the Hilltop, the University of San Francisco baseball team (15-11, 0-1 WCC) dropped a 5-0 decision to Santa Clara (13-10, 1-3 WCC) Thursday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

Santa Clara jumped ahead in the second inning on a Dylan Joyce two-out solo home run over the right-field wall.
The Broncos added to their lead in the following inning when Efrain Manzo recorded a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring JonJon Berring to push the advantage to 2-0.
San Francisco threatened in the bottom of the fourth inning, loading the bases on base hits from Michael Campagna and TJ Rogers and a Zack Ramppen walk. The Dons, however, failed to cut into the deficit when Patrick Keighran grounded into a force out at third base.
Manzo came through in the fifth, posting a long two-run home run to left field, giving the Broncos a 4-0 lead.
The Broncos added one more run in the top half of the sixth to increase their lead to 5-0.
San Francisco continued to battle throughout the remainder of the game but failed to plate a run, finishing the contest with eight runners left on base.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

The Dons totaled three hits, with JT Amaral, Campagna, and Rogers recording base hits throughout the game.
Max Jones and Hunter Holzemer shut out Santa Clara in the game's final three frames, allowing a combined one hit while Holzemer recorded two strikeouts.
