Ramppen Named to Buster Posey Award Watch List

WICHITA, Kan. – University of San Francisco sophomore catcher Zack Ramppen has been named to the 2024 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watch List, announced by the Wichita Sports Commission Thursday afternoon.

Previously known as the Johnny Bench Award, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award honors the nation's top division one collegiate catcher as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors.

In his first season with the green and gold after spending his first collegiate season at West Virginia, Ramppen ranks fourth on the team with a .227 batting average while accumulating 22 hits, six doubles, 17 RBI, nine walks, and five stolen bases in five attempts in 28 games. Behind the dish, Ramppen has posted a near-perfect .993 fielding percentage with 128 putouts, committing only one error, and has thrown out 13 batters, which tied for the most in the West Coast Conference.

The 2024 winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 26 at the Greater Wichita Sports Banquet. Three finalists will be invited to attend the banquet hosted by the Wichita Sports Commission. Nominations from head coaches and sports information directors will continue until Wednesday, May 8.
