Dons Fall Short to Saint Mary's in Series Finale

MORAGA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (17-23, 1-11 WCC) dropped its series final matchup at Saint Mary's (24-13, 9-3 WCC), falling 9-4 Sunday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • San Francisco gained an early advantage, plating two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Three of the first four batters reached base to start the frame as Michael Campagna and Logan Schweizer recorded base hits while Zack Ramppen worked a six-pitch walk to load the bases with one out.
  • Charles-Etienne Pelletier followed with a two-RBI single to left field, scoring Campagna and Ramppen to take the two-run advantage.
  • The Dons added to their lead in the third, juicing the bases once again after Mattie Thomas, Campagna, and Logan Azem reached to begin the frame. Ramppen picked up an RBI the following at-bat on a fielder's choice to the shortstop Jared Mettam, scoring Thomas. Campagna crossed shortly after on a wild pitch to put the Dons up 4-0.
  • Saint Mary's got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning and followed with eight unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh frames to take the lead for good.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Campagna led the Dons at the plate, going three-for-four at the plate and scored two runs.
  • Pelletier posted his third career multi-RBI game, recording two while going one-for-three at the plate. 
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to the Hilltop at noon on Monday, Apr. 22, when it hosts No. 16 Oregon at Benedetti Diamond.
