Baseball Earns Doubleheader Split Against Central Michigan

GAME ONE: Central Michigan 13, San Francisco 11
- Jumping ahead in the first inning, San Francisco scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Patrick Keighran began the scoring with an RBI double, scoring Jordan Lewis, who singled earlier in the frame. With a runner on third in the following at-bat, Eddison Esquivel recorded an RBI groundout to extend the Dons' advantage.
- Adding to their lead in the bottom of the second inning, Brendan Burke and Matty Fung singled to begin the frame, and Kenny DeCelle walked to load the bases. Lewis followed with A sacrifice fly, scoring Burke, to push the margin to 3-0.
- Responding in the top of the third and fourth frames, Central Michigan took its first lead, 5-3, following five unanswered runs. A three-run fourth inning capped off the comeback as Cole Prout homered to begin the rally.
- Keighran came through in the bottom half of the fourth, tying the game at five with a two-RBI double down the left-field line.
- With the two teams knotted at eight, after trading runs in the fifth and sixth innings, the Dons jumped ahead in the seventh as Esquivel recorded a long two-run home run over the right-field wall to give the green and gold a 10-8 advantage. An insurance run came across in the eighth inning, as Matteo Bellisimo notched a solo home run to push the lead to 11-8.
- The Chippewas responded in the top of the ninth, scoring five runs to take a 13-11 lead. The program then fended off the Dons in the bottom of the ninth to secure the victory.
- Falling behind early in the nightcap, San Francisco faced a 2-0 deficit after Central Michigan scored runs in the first and third innings.
- The offense broke out in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Dons scored six runs to take a commanding 6-2 lead. Three straight hits to begin the inning plated the first run, with DeCelle scoring on a TJ Rogers RBI base hit. Esquivel followed with a two-RBI double, and JT Amaral pummeled a straight-away two-run home run later in the frame to solidify the scoring.
- Two more runs came across in the fifth, pushing the margin to 8-2 as Rogers and Keighran recorded back-to-back RBI doubles.
- San Francisco expanded on its lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted by Rogers' two-run home run for a 12-2 advantage.
- Austin Cupic entered the game on the mound following a stellar performance by Joe Soberon and closed the door on the Chippewas, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
- Three players recorded four hits throughout the doubleheader, with DeCelle, Keighran, and Rogers combining for a .571 batting average (12-for-21). Rogers shined as he went four-for-eight at the plate with two doubles, one home run, six RBI, and scored six runs.
- Along with Rogers, DeCelle recorded a four-for-seven outing with a double and an RBI, while Keighran added four hits, three doubles, and five RBI.
- Soberon recorded his second win on the mound, guiding the Dons in the second game of the doubleheader. Soberon finished his six-inning outing, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out three batters.
- As a team, San Francisco recorded five home runs as Rogers, Bellisimo, Fung, Esquivel, and Amaral found success with the long ball, with Bellisimo and Esquivel posting their first home runs.
