Dons Drop Midweek Matchup to Huskies

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (5-4) dropped a narrow 6-2 non-conference decision to Washington (3-6) Wednesday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • With the game scoreless through the first two innings of play, Washington jumped ahead in the top of the third and took a 1-0 lead. Sam DeCarlo worked a leadoff walk and later scored, aided by an error by pitcher Dylan Brown on a failed pick-off attempt.
  • San Francisco threatened in the bottom half of the third, putting two runners in scoring position following singles by Matty Fung and Jordan Lewis. With TJ Rogers at the plate and two outs on the board, the Huskies' Jackson Thomas won the seven-pitch battle, striking out Rogers to end the frame.
  • The Huskies added runs in the fifth, seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to build a commanding 6-0 advantage, with the Dons coming to bat for the final half-frame.
  • San Francisco scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, thwarting Washington's shutout as Matteo Bellisimo recorded a two-out two-run home run, scoring Patrick Keighran, to trim the deficit to 6-2. The Huskies solidified the victory shortly after as JT Amaral grounded out to shortstop to end the game.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • San Francisco totaled four hits throughout the contest as Lewis, Rogers, Bellisimo, and Fung recorded base hits.
  • Bellisimo provided the Dons with offense, recording his second home run of the season, a two-run blast in the bottom of the ninth inning. Registering his third ribbie in the last two games, Bellisimo ranks sixth on the team with five RBI in five games played.
  • Hunter Holzemer earned the start on the mound for the Dons, pitching a solid two innings, keeping the Huskies scoreless, and allowing one hit, two walks, and recorded one strikeout.
  • Despite picking up the loss, Brown pitched two solid innings, allowed one run, and totaled one walk.
