Baseball Drops Series Opener at San Jose State

Box Score SAN JOSE, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (5-5) dropped a 7-2 non-conference decision on the road in the series opener at San Jose State (7-2) Friday afternoon at Excite Ballpark.

IN CASE YOU MISSED:
  • After a scoreless first inning, San Jose State jumped ahead and gained a 3-0 lead. Despite only recording two hits, the Spartans took advantage of an in-field error to plate the three unearned runs.
  • San Francisco responded in the top of the fourth when TJ Rogers lined a two-run no-doubter over the left-field wall, trimming the deficit to 3-2.
  • Returning to extend the lead in the bottom of the fourth frame, San Jose State started the bottom of the fourth inning with a leadoff home run off the bat of Jake McCoy, followed by two more RBI base hits to build a 6-2 advantage.
  • Both teams went scoreless in the following three innings until an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for the Spartans, solidified the scoring and the victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Rogers logged his third home run of the season as he went three-for-four at the plate, extending his hitting streak to nine straight.
  • Strong relief pitching played a factor in the later innings as Ac Cabrera, Tyler Prystajko, and Cal Amborn combined to allow one run in four innings. Prystajko recorded two strikeouts in the one inning of work while Cabrera and Amborn posted one a piece.
