SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (10-10, 1-0) scored a late tally and defeated Santa Clara (9-11, 0-1) 2-1 in the West Coast Conference opener Friday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco scored the game's opening run in the second inning, when Jayden Garrison recorded an infield single to score Jackson Nystrom for an early 1-0 advantage.
- Santa Clara leveled the game at a run apiece at the top of the fourth on an RBI sacrifice bunt from Luke Devine.
- Eddison Esquivel scored the go-ahead run for the green and gold in the bottom of the eighth inning when Nystrom was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Dons held the Broncos scoreless in the final frame to earn the narrow one-run victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Gabriel Barrett recorded his second quality start of the season, allowing one run on four hits and recording two strikeouts in six innings of work.
- Hunter Holzemer picked up his second win of the season, finishing the game with two scoreless frames and three punchouts.
- Garrison went one-for-three at the plate and recorded one of the Dons' two RBI. Nystrom registered the other RBI with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the eighth inning.Â
