Baseball Drops Narrow Decision to Creighton on Saturday

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (10-10) dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to Creighton (9-5) Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Creighton gained the early advantage at the top of the first inning, jumping ahead 1-0 on a Will MacLean RBI single to right field.
  • The Blue Jays added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning, scoring four runs to take a 5-0 advantage. Despite only recording two hits, a throwing error by third baseman Patrick Keighran and a Kyle Hess sacrifice bunt helped Creighton expand its margin.
  • San Francisco put a tally on the board in the bottom half of the sixth when Trevor Harmon punched a solo home run over the left-field wall, trimming the deficit to 5-1.
  • The Dons continued to rally in the bottom of the ninth as Jordan Lewis led off with a long double to right-center field. Following two straight outs, pinch hitter Eddison Esquivel pushed a single through the right side of the infield, scoring Lewis, to inch closer at 5-2.
  • The rally was abruptly cut short after Tyler Harries grounded out to second, securing Creighton's 5-2 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Harmon continued his hitting streak, extending it to three straight, as he went one-for-two at the plate with a home run. His solo blast in the sixth inning also marked his second long ball in the last three games.
  • Solid bullpen play guided the green and gold, as Gabriel Barrett and Cal Amborn combined for four innings, allowing one hit, two walks, and two strikeouts.
  • Joe Soberon earned the start on the mound, pitching a solid five innings, allowing just three earned runs on five hits, two walks, and struck out one batter.
