Women's Basketball Earns the No. 5 Seed in WCC Championship

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has officially released the Credit Union 1 WCC Women's Basketball Championship Bracket following the conclusion of the 2024-25 regular season. Earning a share of the regular-season title, Gonzaga and Portland will be the top two seeds of the tournament.

In an up-and-down campaign, San Francisco concluded the regular season with a 14-15 overall record while finishing in sole possession of fifth in the WCC standings. The program's 11 conference victories mark the first time the Dons have secured at least 11 wins during league play since the 2016-17 season and have finished no lower than fifth place in the last five years.

Freja Werth led the Dons in scoring at 16.8 points per game, third best in the conference, while shooting a career-best 41.4 percent from the field and 36.0 from the three-point line. As a team, the green and gold solidified themselves as one of the best defensive teams in the WCC, allowing just 62.9 points per game, second best in the conference, and totaling 7.8 steals and 4.0 blocks per game.

Wrapping up the regular season with a win over San Diego, 60-35, San Francisco will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the third round at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 8, at Orleans Arena. The green and gold will take on the winner of the winner of Friday's matchup between No. 8 seed Santa Clara and No. 9 seed LMU.

Through the league's tiebreaker rules, Gonzaga received the No. 1 seed with a pair of wins over Portland during the two regular season matchups. Portland will be the No. 2 seed after ending the regular season on a 12-game winning streak. Both teams will receive a bye to the semifinals of the championship on Monday, Mar. 10.

Washington State completed the regular season on a three-game winning streak and heads to Las Vegas as the No. 3 seed. Oregon State will be the No. 4 seed.

Saint Mary's is the No. 6 seed and will begin competition in the championship on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. No. 7 seed Pacific will begin play in Friday's second round at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of the opening game of the championship on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. between No. 10 seed Pepperdine and No. 11 seed San Diego.
