DAVIS, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (7-6) prevailed in a low-scoring affair, earning a 2-1 road victory over UC Davis (8-5) Tuesday evening at Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- UC Davis scored the game's opening run in the bottom of the second inning when Houston Hirschkorn singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Nick Leehey for a 1-0 lead.
- San Francisco answered in the top half of the fifth inning as Tyler Harries plated the tying run on an infield error by the third baseman, Ryan Lee.
- Harries kickstarted the frame with a leadoff double and moved 90 feet following a Matty Fung groundout. Harries later scored on a hard-hit ball to third off the bat of Jordan Lewis that was booted by Lee, allowing Lewis to reach.
- Jumping ahead in the sixth, Patrick Keighran connected on a long solo home run over the left field wall, giving the green and gold a 2-1 edge.
- Holding down the Aggies throughout the final three frames, Quentin Pohorski picked up the save to solidify the 2-1 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Five players registered a hit throughout the contest, with Kenny DeCelle, TJ Rogers, Kody Watanabe, Harries, and Keighran recording one apiece.
- Keighran posted his first home run of the season, putting the green and gold up in the sixth inning. Overall, Keighran's long ball marked the ninth time he has rounded the bases in his four-year career.
- Tyler Prystajko earned his first career win as he pitched two innings out of the bullpen and registered five strikeouts.
- Pohorski pitched the final three innings, matching his longest outing of the season, and allowed three hits and struck out two batters.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to the Hilltop on Friday, Mar. 7, when it begins a three-game series against Nevada at 2:00 p.m. at Benedetti Diamond.
