DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • San Francisco enters its fourth West Coast Conference series in a tie for fourth place in the league standings after suffering a three-game sweep at Gonzaga last weekend.
  • Despite the series loss, Jordan Lewis and TJ Rogers posted .400 batting averages, combining for eight hits in 20 at-bats. Lewis led the Dons in extra-base hits with two, drew two walks, and recorded one RBI. Rogers added four hits throughout the weekend series, one RBI, and was a perfect two-for-two on stolen base attempts.
  • Concluding its Pacific Northwest road trip at Washington State on Monday, Apr. 7, four players totaled hits, highlighted by a Brendan Burke RBI double. In limited playing time this season, Burke has posted three hits in his last five appearances while scoring two runs.
  • On the mound, Tyler Prystajko matches his season-high with two innings pitched on Friday, Apr. 4, allowing just one run on one hit and striking out three batters. Prystajko has recorded a 0.96 earned-run average with 12 strikeouts in 9.1 innings in six appearances out of the bullpen this season.
  • Cal Amborn was also solid in relief last week, appearing in three games against CSUN, Gonzaga, and Washington State. In 3.1 total innings pitched, Amborn faced 16 batters and allowed three hits and two walks while posting three strikeouts. Lowering his earned-run average to 6.23, Amborn has kept opponents scoreless in his last five outings, totaling six innings while facing 23 batters.
  • San Francisco has accumulated a .255 batting average through 33 games as a team, ranking fifth best in the WCC. The Dons' pitching has been solid, ranking fourth in the league in earned-run average at 5.99.
  • Kenny DeCelle, Lewis, and Rogers have led the green and gold offensively during conference play, as DeCelle is third in triples (one) and walks (six) and fifth in home runs (two). Rogers is tied for second with five doubles and is tied with Lewis for fourth in stolen bases with three.
SCOUTING THE LIONS:
  • Traveling to the Hilltop tied with San Francisco for fourth place in the WCC standings, LMU has dropped five of its last six games, including a series loss to Pacific at home last weekend.
  • In a slugfest of a series against the Tigers, 49 runs were scored throughout the three games, accentuated by a 14-11 come-from-behind victory for the Tigers in the series finale on Sunday, Apr. 6. Trailing 11-4, Pacific scored 10 runs on six hits in the top of the ninth inning to take its first lead of the game.
  • Four Lions players have recorded a .300 batting average or better in 33 games. Beau Ankeney, a true power hitter, leads the program with a .343 batting average and has totaled a team-leading 19 extra-base hits. His 10 home runs this season rank first in the WCC while being the only player in the conference with double-digit long balls.
  • On the mound, Kenji Pallares leads all qualified pitchers with a 5.31 earned-run average, allowing 24 runs in 40.2 innings pitched. Entering the weekend as the starter for the series opener, Pallares has pitched five innings or more in seven of his eight outings, highlighted by a 5.1 inning performance at Portland on Friday, Mar. 28, allowing only one hit, two walks, and recording six strikeouts in a no-decision.
SCOUTING THE WOLF PACK:
  • Despite a slip-up at UNLV last weekend, dropping two games in the three-game series, Nevada enters the weekend in second place in the Mountain West Conference standings at 7-5. The program is set to host San Jose State in a three-game set before hosting San Francisco at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park on Monday.
  • An impressive offensive team, Nevada has totaled 204 RBI, ranking second-best in the league. Six players for the Wolf Pack have accumulated 20 or more RBI this season, led by Jackson Waller with 29. Waller has also posted a .300 batting average, ranking second in hits with 39 and doubles with 10.
  • Junhyuk Kwon, the program's best overall hitter, is on an eight-game hitting streak dating back to Friday, Mar. 28 against Washington State. During his streak, Kwon has totaled five multi-hit performances, including going three-for-four at the plate in the victory over Simpson last Tuesday at home.
