Baseball Earns Narrow Victory Over Pacific in Series Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (16-22, 5-8 WCC) earned a 4-2 series-opening victory over Pacific (14-25, 2-8 WCC) Thursday night at Klein Family Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Pacific grabbed an early 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning as Andrew Sloan scored on a Drake Bicknell RBI single.
- Following three scoreless innings for San Francisco, JT Amaral put the Dons on top in the fourth with a two-out triple to right field, plating Eddie Esquivel and Zack Ramppen for a 2-1 lead.
- After the Tigers tied the game at two, Kenny DeCelle scored the go-ahead run for the green and gold with a solo home run over the left-field wall.
- In the top of the seventh, Patrick Keighran slashed an RBI single through the left side of the infield, advancing Kody Watanabe home for an insurance run, extending the lead 4-2. Watanabe reached earlier in the frame with a leadoff double and moved to third on a TJ Rogers groundout.
- Keeping Pacific off the board, San Francisco allowed just four baserunners in the final five innings to earn the narrow 4-2 victory.
- Gabriel Barrett earned his fifth start on the mound, pitching three solid innings, allowing one run on two hits, and matching a season-high five strikeouts.
- Ramppen and Watanabe posted two hits apiece while combining for two doubles and two runs scored.
- Amaral led San Francisco with two RBI, his third multi-RBI game this season.
- Quentin Pohorski picked up his team-leading fifth save of the season as he pitched the final two innings, giving up just one walk and recording two strikeouts.
San Francisco continues its series in Stockton, when it takes on Pacific at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 18 at Klein Family Field.
