San Francisco Falls to Washington State on Monday

PULLMAN, Wash. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (14-19) closed its four-game road swing at Washington State (13-19), falling 8-3 Monday afternoon at Bailey-Brayton Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • San Francisco trailed early, falling behind when Washington State plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Brendan Burke helped cut into the deficit in the top of the third, ripping an RBI double down the left-field line. Nick Walsh scored the Dons' opening tally, earning a seven-pitch walk to begin the frame.
  • After the Cougars added to their lead in the bottom of the third, expanding the margin to 4-1,  Kody Watanabe scored a run on a Trevor Harmon ground out in the sixth to get within 4-2.
  • Washington State built its lead to 8-2 before the San Francisco offense returned to work, reducing the deficit to 8-3 in the eighth. With the bases loaded, Watanabe crossed home on a Jordan Lewis ground out to first base.
  • The Dons failed to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the game.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Dylan Brown was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking two, and striking out three.
  • In the batter's box, the Dons were led by Burke, who went one-for-four on the day with a double and an RBI.
  • Watanabe also put together a noteworthy performance at the dish, going one-for-three with a double and a walk.
  • Kenny DeCelle also chipped in for San Francisco, recording one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.
