RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Following its series-opening loss on Friday, the University of San Francisco baseball team (9-8) bounced back with a 6-4 victory over UC Riverside (5-14) Saturday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Myles Kallinger recorded a grand slam home run over the left-field wall.
- Kallinger recorded another RBI knock in the fourth inning with a double, scoring Zach Nagy to push the Dons' advantage to 5-0.
- UC Riverside trimmed its deficit to 5-3 at the end of the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run fifth frame.
- With the bases loaded at the top of the seventh, Jayden Garrison scored on a passed ball to increase the green and gold advantage to 6-3.
- Despite getting to with 6-4, the Highlanders failed to score in the final two innings as the Dons pulled even in the series with the 6-4 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Kallinger paced San Francisco offensively, going two-for-four at the plate with a double, a home run, and a career-best five RBI. He also recorded the second grand slam of his career, with the last coming at UC Riverside on March 12, 2025.
- Garrison also registered a multi-hit performance, with two hits in four at-bats, a run scored, and a walk.
- Gauge Lockhart impressed on the mound, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out three in four innings of work.
- Quentin Pohorski pitched the final three innings to earn the save, as he allowed one run on two hits and struck out a team-high four batters.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to action at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 15, when it takes on UC Riverside in the rubber match of its three-game at the Riverside Sports Complex.
