SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (10-10, 1-0) scored a late tally and defeated Santa Clara (9-11, 0-1) 2-1 in the West Coast Conference opener Friday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

San Francisco scored the game's opening run in the second inning, when Jayden Garrison recorded an infield single to score Jackson Nystrom for an early 1-0 advantage.
Santa Clara leveled the game at a run apiece at the top of the fourth on an RBI sacrifice bunt from Luke Devine.
Eddison Esquivel scored the go-ahead run for the green and gold in the bottom of the eighth inning when Nystrom was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Dons held the Broncos scoreless in the final frame to earn the narrow one-run victory.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

Gabriel Barrett recorded his second quality start of the season, allowing one run on four hits and recording two strikeouts in six innings of work.
Hunter Holzemer picked up his second win of the season, finishing the game with two scoreless frames and three punchouts.
Garrison went one-for-three at the plate and recorded one of the Dons' two RBI. Nystrom registered the other RBI with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the eighth inning.
