Five Run Ninth Inning Propels Dons Over Waves in Series Opener

MALIBU, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (21-22, 12-7) used a five-run ninth inning to secure a 10-4 victory over Pepperdine (17-27, 11-8) Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Trailing 2-0 at the top of the fourth inning, San Francisco scored twice to level the scoring at two runs apiece. Eddison Esquivel put the Dons on the board with an RBI double, and Tyler Harries plated Esquivel later in the inning for the green and gold's second tally.
- Jackson Nystrom broke open the contest in the seventh when he recorded a three-run home run, scoring Myles Kallinger and Jared Lewis, to give the Dons a 5-2 lead.
- After the Waves trimmed their deficit to 5-4, the green and gold plated five runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a commanding 10-4 advantage. Ten batters came to the plate throughout the frame, with Trevon Harmon and Esquivel totaling RBI singles.
- Esquivel paced San Francisco at the plate, going two-for-five, with a double, three RBI, and scoring two runs.
- Nystrom went one-for-four throughout the contest and recorded his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the top of the seventh inning.
- Zack Ramppen, Lewis, and Harmon also posted multi-hit performances, combining for seven of the Dons' 13 hits.
- As a team, San Francisco drew five walks against Pepperdine pitching, with TJ Rogers leading the way with three.
- Gabriel Barrett earned his second win of the season on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits and registering three strikeouts in six innings of work.
- Kai Yovanovich and Nick Bacura pitched a combined two scoreless frames, allowing one hit and one walk.

San Francisco continues its series in Malibu when it takes on Pepperdine at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at Eddy D. Stadium Field.
