Roadrunner Recap

USF traveled to Bakersfield, Calif. for the Roadrunner Classic and faced a tough stretch. The Dons first fell in a three-set match against UC Irvine. In the contest against UC Riverside, the Dons were in the middle of a marathon five-setter. The Green and Gold claimed the first game, 25-22, but dropped the next two sets. USF came storming back in the fourth to force the deciding set. The Dons would fight until the end, but came up just short, as the HIghlanders won the match with a 19-17 fifth set.

Emily Reed and Tyna Adamcikova both had double-doubles- the first time this season where multiple players in a single game recorded the impressive stat line. Adamcikova was all over the court to help out on both offense and defense. The 6-0 outside hitter recorded 22 kills (.347) and 17 digs to lead the Dons, while Reed compiled 21 kills and 13 digs.

Freshman Shannon Levinson started for the first time this season in the matches against UCR and Northern Arizona. In the two starts, Levinson recorded a total of 44 assists (23 vs. UCR, 11 vs. NAU) to lead the Dons. Marjolijn Oskam continues to be an impressive defensive force, as the 6-4 middle blocker stuffed a total of 10 blocks over the three-game stretch.

Opening Week of WCC Action

In the opening week of West Coast Conference play, USF will face a tough task of playing against two top-15 programs on the road- with stops coming at No.7 San Diego (8-2, 0-0) and No. 13 BYU (11-1, 0-0). The Toreros posted a perfect week last weekend, as they defeated three Big West programs in Long Beach St., Cal State Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara. USD is currently undefeated at home (5-0) and its offense is led by Lauren Schad (110 kills) and Lisa Kramer (95 kills, 4.52 k/set).

Following the mid-week contest at San Diego, the Dons will travel to Provo, Utah for a clash against No.13 BYU. The Cougars fell three spots in the latest rankings after a tough five-set loss to Utah. BYU bounced back with two straight sweeps over Cal State Northridge and UNLV. For the Cougars, McKenna Miller leads the explosive attack with 189 kills (4.5 k/set). Amy Boswell paces BYU's defensive front-line with 50 blocks, while defensive specialist Mary Lake holds the back-line with 188 digs.

Who's leading the Dons?

Through 47 total sets, Adamcikova leads the USF offense with 163 kills (3.47 k/set). The freshman pin hitter also leads the Dons with 22 service aces, and is second with 90 digs to help the defense. Reed continues to produce an impressive senior season as she is second on the squad with 157 kills (3.34 k/set).

Defensively, USF is led by Oskam's 42 total blocks (0.89 blocks/set) and Kim Gutierrez's 136 digs. Freshman Kate Ashman has 37 total blocks to tag-team alongside Oskam.
