SAN FRANCISCO – Entering his 20th year as head coach, Nino Giarratano is pleased to announce the signing of Breck Eichelberger (Snow Canyon/St. George, Utah), Harris Williams (Denver North/Denver, Colo.), Kasey Koppelmaa (Chatfield/Littleton, Colo.) and Matthew Mendibles (Yavapai College/Prescott Valley, Ariz.) to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of San Francisco for the 2018-19 year.
In case you missed last week's release, we highlighted Chatfield High School's Kasey Koppelmaa. This week we take a look at junior college transfer, Matt Mendibles. Now entering his sophomore year at Yavapai College, Mendibles boasted a batting average of .333, adding two home runs and 23 RBIs in 2017.
"Matt Mendibles is a great signing for the Dons. He will be able to hit in the middle of our lineup next year," said Giarratano. "Matt has a very mature approach to hitting and fits our system very well. He is capable of playing all infield positions, 3b, 2b, 1b, and SS. We are very proud to bring in such and outstanding player from one of the finest junior colleges in the country."
"Matt is a physical bat whose athleticism allows him to be versatile defensively. He is extremely competitive and will be ready to contribute his first year for USF," said Ryan Cougill Yavapai College head coach.
Next week we will feature Jake Pizzo, who will be returning to USF for the 2019 season from Fresno City College.
