SAN BRUNO, Calif. – As part of its long-term relationship, the West Coast Conference has announced that at least 29 men's basketball games involving WCC schools will air nationally on ESPN Networks this season, including additional exposure during the 2019 West Coast Conference Basketball Championship in Las Vegas. The University of San Francisco men's basketball team will appear in two of them.
War Memorial at the Sobrato Center will be on full display as both of USF's televised games on ESPN will be on the home court. The Dons, guided by third year head coach
Kyle Smith, will make their ESPN regular season debut on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 8:00 p.m. when they host Saint Mary's. That game will be televised on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. On Saturday, Jan. 12 USF will host Gonzaga for a 7:00 p.m. game that will be aired live on ESPN2.
"We are excited to play nationally televised games in front of our fans in the Sobrato Center," said Director of Athletics
Scott Sidwell. "As we continue to push our program to higher ground we will be in a great position to promote beyond the Bay Area all that is great about USF."
Once again, the WCC Championships will return to Las Vegas where all the games will air on an ESPN network.
As the season approaches, check the interactive schedule on WCCsports.com or follow West Coast Conference Basketball on Twitter (@WCChoops) for additional non-conference telecasts, along with local and regional telecast information from the conference and its member institutions.
The Dons are coming off an exciting 2017-18 that saw USF advance all the way to the CBI Championship game and finish the year with a 22-17 record. Under Smith, the Dons have posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since the 1981 and '82 seasons.
This year promises to be another exciting season on the Hilltop as Smith returns one of his most complete teams, which includes First Team All-WCC guard
Frankie Ferrari, three year starters
Nate Renfro and
Matt McCarthy and juniors
Jordan Ratinho,
Jimbo Lull and
Remu Raitanen, as well as the return of
Charles Minlend.
