DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Trading momentum all weekend, USF and Gonzaga battled in a three-game series on the Hilltop this past weekend, with the Dons stealing game two in walk-off fashion in a 14-11 comeback win. In the victory, San Francisco tallied their most runs in a single game this season as Mario DeMera blasted the game-ending home run en route to tallying a new career-high with five RBI's.
  • Heating up at the plate, DeMera is now fifth in the WCC in RBI with 25. On the basepaths, Luke Keaschall has remained as one of the most dangerous base stealers in the country as the sophomore currently leads the conference in stolen bases (23) while also ranking sixth nationally.
  • Looking at the standings, USF heads into the week tied for fourth place in the conference with Portland, BYU, Pepperdine and Santa Clara. All five schools have a 6-6 record in WCC play. Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount and San Diego hold the top three spots as of Monday, Apr. 11.
SCOUTING THE CARDINAL:
  • Winners of eight of their last ten, Stanford swept Pac-12 rival Arizona State this past weekend at Sunken Diamond as the Cardinal exploded for 34 total runs in their series against the Sun Devils.
  • On Monday, Vincent Martinez earned a spot on Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week list after homering in all three weekend games while teammate Alex Williams was selected as the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after tossing a three-hit shutout against ASU on Friday night.
  • Aiming to get back to Omaha after making a run to the College World Series one year ago, this year's Stanford squad is led by infielder Carter Graham, who currently ranks third in the Pac-12 in batting average (.375) and tied for seventh in home runs (7), and utility player Braden Montgomery, who is also tied with Graham with seven long balls. Notably, Montgomery will be making his second start of the season on Tuesday, which will mark his ninth total appearance so far this year.
